Year 4 - DT Lesson
Year 4’s topic this half term is Traders and Raiders so we will be learning all about the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons.
Children will look at photographs, artifacts and film footage of Saxon weaponry and find out about the terrible damage they could do.
The children will improve their mastery of art and design techniques by making a Viking Longboat, shield and Saxon weaponry.
Year 3 - Science Topics for the week
Year 3 will be discussing Science questions to develop research skills and speaking and listening:
1) Lettuce is supposed to be a healthy food. But what would happen to us if we ate nothing but lettuce?
2) Do all the foods we eat only contain a single food group?
3) Iron is a mineral. Which foods contain it? And why do we need minerals in our diet anyway?
4) Vitamin C is found in which foods? And why do we need different vitamins in our diet?
Parental Engagement
Thank you to all of our parents who attended the Parents Evening on Thursday 10 January, 2019. This was an excellent way to start the New Year and all teachers and the Principal were delighted at the high turnout on the evening, we had in excess of sixty percent of our parents, across both Primary and Secondary phases, attend the evening alongside students and one or two Governors who were also very pleased with the evening. Parents play a crucial role in supporting their children’s learning, and levels of parental engagement are consistently associated with children’s academic outcomes and we encourage parents to keep in close dialogue with their child's teacher going forward also.
Special Visit by Professor Nidhal Guessoum
We were very fortunate to have the highly respected author, Professor Nidhal Guessoum of the American University of Sharjah, visiting our school and delivering a workshop and talk for the students on Islam and Science. He has written a new book, The Young Muslim's Guide to Modern Science, which explains in detail many questions that occur regarding Islam and Science.
