Road Safety Workshop!
Road safety is always an important message to instil in children, particularly in Key Stage 1, and remaining alert and aware on roads is key in bustling urban areas. This week we welcomed the Riot Act, a road-safety awareness project who use theatre to deliver and promote powerful messages regarding staying safe on the road. "Muffin, Don't Get Squashed" was the workshop our Year 1 and 2 students participated in, and on all fronts the activity was a great success!
Year 3 - Making Fridge Magnets!
Fridge magnets aren't just fun collectables after a holiday but a great way to explore the scientific forces of magnetism, and the electromagnetic sphere surrounding magnets, and this week our Year 3 students made their very own fridge magnets during an art lesson, linking their creativity to science too!
And while we're speaking of magnets, did you know that iron, nickel and cobalt are the only magnetic metals? We didn't either!
Zoo Lab Fun!
Are you a fan of snakes, snails and spiders? Most people aren't, but our students at BHA absolutely loved the rotary of animals who came to visit them this week. From snails with brilliant, swirling patterns on their shells, to fuzzy-legged tarantulas and leopard-printed lizards, Barnet Hill Academy was swarmed by some of the most looked-over creatures in the animal kingdom - some of which (like the spider) have great significance in Islam too!
Year 5 - Our Pottery Journey!
In last week's newsletter, we showed you our Year 5 class's initial jug creations, and now we have the second stage of their marvellous pottery! Our Year 5 class got inventive as they applied mod roc onto their their jug bases this week, working together to make something great. We cannot wait to see how these jugs will turn out so stay tuned for more updates on Year 5's pottery journey!
