Year 5 - Poppy Artwork

Our Year 5 students made beautiful poppy paintings as part of their look into why poppies are so significant in commemorating WWI. The poppy symbolises the remembrance of those who lost their lives during the war, as well as the contributions of families and emergency services at this time. And the reason why poppies are worn is because these were the flowers growing on the battlefield after the war ended ... acting as the world's natural symbolism.

Each class held speech-giving ceremonies prior to the voting, and they thoroughly enjoyed sharing their speeches aloud!

Year 6 - Making WWII Shelters

WWII was an event that had shaken the course of events during the 20th century, and our Year 6 students have been studying about the events of the war, as well as the societal and emotional effects that it triggered. As part of their learning, our Year 6 students put together their own Anderson shelters, a type of air-raid shelter common during this period. By using materials such as cardboard, paper, paint and more, our Year 6 students brought a little piece of British history to life in their classrooms!
